A: All of our registration for Enrichment, AfterCare, vacation camps, and summer camps can be found online at https://breakwaterlearning.campbrainregistration.com/. To register your child, you will need to create a log-­in and complete a registration for each program you would like for your child to participate in. 

Q: What do I need to do to register my child?


A: Our after school programs accommodate children ages K to 8th grade. Enrichment classes are offered specific to grade level from K-8 and summer camps are available for toddler-rising 9th graders. Please email enrichment@breakwaterschool.org with any questions or summer@breakwaterschool.org for questions about summer camps.

Q: What ages can enroll?


A: Our ‘homebase’ is in the Dan with enrichment classes and other activities taking place on the playgrounds/field in addition to the Brick building and Jesse building. For more information about our campus click here

Q: WhERE DOES AFTERCARE TAKE PLACE?


A: Enrichment classes vary in time from 30 minutes to over two hours (longer classes are usually our middle school biking and skiing enrichments) with the majority being 1 hour. Please refer to our schedules for each class and session. 

AfterCare schedule is as follows:

  • Monday: 2:10pm ­- 5:30pm

  • Tuesday: 2:10pm ­- 5:30pm

  • Wednesday: 1:10pm ­- 5:30pm (PPS Early Release Days)

  • Thursday: 2:10pm -­ 5:30pm

  • Friday: 1:30pm - ­5:30pm (BWS Early Release Days)

Q: What are the times for AfterCare and Enrichment classes?


A: We accommodate Breakwater’s early release on Fridays beginning AfterCare at 1:30pm. 

For the Portland Public School System, we begin AfterCare at 1:10pm on Wednesdays for district-wide early release days.

Q: What about Early Release Days?


A: We provide transportation for Portland Schools for grades K­-5. We will pick up students at dismissal on one of our 14 passenger mini-­buses or smaller vans. Parents are responsible for taking their child home after programming. At this time we provide transportation from Amanda C. Rowe Elementary School, Longfellow Elementary School, and Ocean Avenue Elementary School. Pick-up at East End Community School may be added for the 2024-2025 school year based on capacity

Q: DO YOU OFFER TRANSPORTATION FOR MY CHILD FROM THEIR SCHOOL TO BREAKWATER?


A: For our K-8 after school program, a regularly scheduled day looks like (schedule varies on early release days):

  • 2:10 - 3:00pm Dismissal for Longfellow and Ocean Ave

    • Longfellow and Ocean Ave students have outdoor recess or an early enrichment class

  • 3:00pm: Breakwater School dismissal. Activity invitations in the gym or the Hive (after school classroom). Invitations may include a gym game, drawing, building, reading, or climbing our horizontal rock wall

  • 3:30: Clean-up and snack. Breakwater provides each student with one snack. Rowe School dismissal

  • 3:45pm Enrichment classes and AfterCare activities begin. AfterCare activities usually consists of an art / low key option and an active outdoor option (weather dependent). Children in AfterCare can also choose to read, do homework, or participate in free draw.

  • 4:30­ - 5:30pm Free Choice and Free Play. Enrichment classes end

  • 5:30pm: Final pick-up

Q: What does a typical day look like for my child during AfterCare?


A: Due to limited capacity and staffing ratios we need to maintain, we do not offer drop-in aftercare.

Q: Can my child drop in to AfterCare without being registered?


A: Pick-­up and drop off for K­-8 Enrichment and K-­5 AfterCare students take place in “The Dan” Gymnasium (the building on the corner of Brighton and Capisic St.). Please be sure to check in with our AfterCare staff if your drop your child off and during pick-up.

Please complete and return Breakwater Enrichment’s Pick-­­Up Permission Form to notify staff of the list of adults authorized to pick your child(ren) up from our AfterCare or Enrichment Class.

Q: Where do I pick up and drop off my child?


A: We will always allow students to work on their homework during AfterCare programming. We are unable to provide one-on-one assistance while staff are leading activity options. 

Q: Will my child have time to work on their homework?


A: Please notify the Enrichment Director at Extension 238 if your child will be absent for a scheduled Enrichment Class or AfterCare Program. If your child did not attend school or was dismissed early due to an illness, they are not able to attend their scheduled Enrichment Class or AfterCare program.

Q: What if my child misses a day due to illness or other absence?


A: Our AfterCare program is certified by DHHS as a licensed childcare facility.

Q: Is Breakwater AfterCare and Enrichment a licensed program?


Q: When does registration open?

A: Registration for Session 1 AfterCare and Enrichment opens in August. During the school year, registrations typically opens for upcoming sessions 2-3 weeks before the new session begins. Summer at Breakwater registration typically opens in January or February.
