A: All of our registration for Enrichment and AfterCare can be found online at http://breakwater.coursestorm.com. To register your child, you will need to create a log-in and complete a registration for each program you would like for your child to participate in.
Q: What do I need to do to register my child?
A: Our AfterCare programs accommodate children ages toddler to 8th grade. Our Early Childhood AfterCare is only for BWS enrolled students. Enrichment classes are offered specific to grade level. Please see our registration page on our website for which classes are offered to your child’s grade.
Q: What ages can enroll?
A: Our Early Childhood AfterCare program for toddler and pre-schoolers is held in the lower level of the Brick Building. Grades K-8 will have options together in the Dan Crewe Building (the building on the corner of Brighton and Capisic St.)
Q: WhERE DOES AFTERCARE TAKE PLACE?
A: Enrichment classes vary in time from an hour to two hours in length. Please refer to our schedules for each class and session.
AfterCare schedule is as follows:
Monday: 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Tuesday: 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Wednesday: 1:50pm - 6:00pm (PPS Early Release Days)
Thursday: 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Friday: 1:30pm - 6:00pm (BWS Early Release Days)
Early Childhood AfterCare runs from 3:00 - 5:30 daily.
Q: What are the times for AfterCare and Enrichment classes?
A: We accommodate to Breakwater’s early release on Fridays beginning AfterCare at 1:30pm.
For the Portland Public School System, we begin AfterCare at 1:50pm on Wednesdays for district-wide early release days. We do not provide Early Release care for the PPS conference dates. AfterCare would start at the regular time on those PPS conference days.
Q: What about Early Release Days?
A: We provide transportation for Portland Schools for grades K-5. We will pick up students at dismissal on one of our 14 passenger mini-buses or smaller vans. Parents are responsible for taking their child home after programming. At this time we provide transportation from Hall Elementary School, Longfellow Elementary School, Harrison Lyseth Elementary School, Ocean Avenue Elementary School, East End Community School, and Levey Day School daily. We are also offering transportation to and from Reiche School on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays only at this time.

Q: DO YOU OFFER TRANSPORTATION FOR MY CHILD FROM THEIR SCHOOL TO BREAKWATER?
A: A regularly scheduled day looks like:
3 - 3:45pm Drop Off, Healthy Snack Option
3-5 grades have active and lowkey options in Dan Gymnasium
6-8 grades The Landing options are in our Jessie Building
K-2 grades play in the Dan basement
3:45pm Enrichment classes are dismissed and AfterCare group starts to gather
3:45pm - 3:55pm AfterCare goes over the options of the afternoon. This usually consists of an art / low key option and an active option. Weather dependent.
3:55pm - 4:25/30pm Students are expected to choose one of the options of play for a 20/25 minutes time span.
4:30 - 5:30pm Free Choice and Free Play
5:30pm - 6pm Clean up and students are brought to one area for easy pickup (in the Dan)
Q: What does a typical day look like for my child during AfterCare?
A: We do our best to meet the needs of our families. We allow for drop-in care for AfterCare programs only on a space available basis; please contact us with as much notice as possible so that we can do our best to accommodate your need and staff accordingly. Families must purchase a dropin punch card on our registration website prior to the first dropin. Please contact us at email@example.com or ext. 228 or 238 to schedule a drop-in.
Q: Can my child drop in to AfterCare without being registered?
A: Pick-up and drop off for K-8 Enrichment and K-8 AfterCare students take place in “The Dan” Gymnasium (the building on the corner of Brighton and Capisic St.). Please be sure to check in with our AfterCare staff in The Dan and sign your child out on our attendance sheet.
Please complete and return Breakwater Enrichment’s Pick-Up Permission Form to notify staff of the list of adults authorized to pick your child(ren) up from our AfterCare or Enrichment Class.
Q: Where do I pick up and drop off my child?
A: We will always allow students to work on their homework before and during AfterCare programming. However we are unable to provide one-on-one assistance during options.
Q: Will my child have time to work on their homework?
A: Please notify the Enrichment Director at Extension 238 if your child is will be absent for a scheduled Enrichment Class or AfterCare Program. If your child did not attend school or was dismissed early due to an illness, they are not able to attend their scheduled Enrichment Class or AfterCare program.
Q: What if my child misses a day due to illness or other absence?
A: Our AfterCare programs are certified by DHHS as a licensed childcare facility.
